According to a local expert, “Preparing the racing camels involves several stages. Camels are selected based on type, origin, and age and are given a special diet. They practice on the racetrack in groups and are trained to take part in the races.” This meticulous process showcases the dedication and expertise of those involved in the sport.
With specialized community committees overseeing the races, each round typically features between fifteen and twenty racing camels. The racing distance is carefully determined based on the camel’s age, ensuring fair competition and a thrilling spectacle for spectators. Additionally, there are recognized community traditions, customs, and principles governing the races, further adding to the cultural significance of camel racing.
Children and young people play a vital role in preserving this heritage, gradually acquiring knowledge and skills related to the practice through observation, simulation, and oral expressions. As one participant enthusiastically shared, “Camel racing is a fundamental part of our nomadic lifestyle and a source of inspiration in poetry and singing.”
